Right now as I write this, it is March 29, 2022. We are in what the Bible calls ‘the last days’. One of the signs of the last days is ever-increasing spiritual darkness and spiritual bondage. If you are experiencing spiritual oppression, harassment, or demonization and are in need of deliverance, here are some steps that can help you along:
- Prepare for the long haul. The word for ‘salvation’ used in the Bible is the Greek word ‘Sozo’ which carries the meaning of being saved, redeemed, delivered in every way. This is a lifestyle or way of life. In Isaiah 58, God rebuked Israel for fasting only to skip food. He told them that “the fast the Lord has chosen” is a lifestyle that requires ‘fasting from carnal, self-centered living’ and redirecting your energy towards God and the service of others. In the Christian life, we are to be constantly delivered of sins, of carnal or selfish living, of wrong mindsets, and of demonic bondage. This lifestyle of deliverance is meant to continue our entire lives– a day-by-day walk with God– if indeed we are walking with Jesus. Paul said, “Though the outward man is perishing, the inward man is being renewed day by day” (2Corinthians 4:16). So, deliverance from spiritual bondage is one facet of the deliverance that all Christians need.
- Find fellowship with supportive Christians. In 1John 2:12-14, John tells us that there are in a Christian’s life the same three levels of maturity you find in biological life: babe (self-focused), youth (others-focused), and parent (God-focused). If you want deliverance and want a life free of demonization and bondage to sin, you will want to fellowship with Christians who are either spiritual youths (no longer self-focused; love people with actions; courageous) or spiritual parents (mature and wise; selfless; pure-hearted; authentically and quietly live out the Bible). Spiritual babes cannot help you grow or mature spiritually which you will need to do if you want to get and keep your deliverance.
- Persevere in pursuing your deliverance. Deliverance may not come quickly. There are many dynamics and reasons why that could be the case. Even if you see several ministers who are supposed to be specialists but you don’t get delivered, keep pressing forward. God will honor your desire and perseverance and, if you continue, will bring you your deliverance.
