As most of us probably know, the world is in a worse place morally than we ever have been before globally. There are needless wars and rumors of needless wars. There are earthquakes and other natural disasters in various places around the world. Many of the things Jesus predicted are coming to pass not the least of which is a decrease in love for one’s fellowman. As lawlessness increases, spiritual oppression also increases. If you’re seeking deliverance for spiritual bondage, the following tips can benefit you if you put them into practice:
- Sanctify your life to God. In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus said that when a demon is cast out of a person, it will return to see if it can reenter, making the person worse than before. Paul said, “I beseech you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). This sanctification closes doors to sin and also doors to enemy reentrance after deliverance.
- Get prayer support. Tell a few Christians you trust about your need for deliverance and ask for their prayer support. The Bible says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). If you don’t have anyone to pray with, ask God to encourage you as you seek deliverance, because you’ll need support or encouragement. Also, if you don’t know anyone who can pray with you, then a small Bible study or prayer group could be a good place to get support.
- Stay in prayer and be prepared for the long haul. Many people can’t find deliverance for a number of reasons, the main one being that modern churches as a whole aren’t yet equipped enough for spiritual warfare. I once knew a woman who had been seeking deliverance for nineteen years. After several deliverance sessions in her church, they said they couldn’t help her any longer. “Then [Jesus] told them a parable to the end that men always ought to pray and not lose heart” (Luke 18:1). Keep on knocking, and God will provide.
