Deliverance is a way of life. The word ‘deliverance’ in the Bible does not always mean ‘casting out demons’. Babies are ‘delivered’ from their mothers’ wombs. ‘Deliverance’ in the Bible (and in the dictionary) carries the meaning of removing something from one location or situation to another. In the Bible, this applies to initial salvation, daily mind renewal, sanctification and taking up your cross daily, etc.

Here are some steps to take as you seek deliverance:

1. Know your enemy. The Bible, from Old Testament to New Testament, does not pull any punches when describing satan as a murderer and one whose only intention among human beings is “to steal and to kill and to destroy” (John 10:10). Jesus said of satan, “He was a murderer from the beginning” (John 8:44). Peter said of him, “Be self-controlled and vigilant always, for your enemy the devil is always about, prowling like a lion roaring for its prey” (1Peter 5:8). Paul also stated emphatically that when Christians encounter hardship and resistance, they are experiencing the opposition of unseen “principalities… powers… rulers of [the evil in people in the world]… spiritual hosts of wickedness” who live in “the heavenly places” or in the spirit realm all around us. (Ephesians 6:12.) These forces resist Christians, and much more if you are pursuing deliverance. Awareness is a good step.
2. Rely on God. God works through human vessels, and whether or not they succeed in ministry, you can rely on Jesus for deliverance. It might take a few tries, but put your trust in Jesus as the one who personally cares for you and paid for your deliverance many years ago before you needed it. If you desire deliverance and persist in pursuing it with all your heart, you will find it.
