We live in very hard times spiritually speaking. In spite of the thousands of churches that litter America, the churches are not having any real and lasting impact on the society around us. If America was founded as a Christian nation, then Jesus should have more say in our nation than He currently does.
In Israel’s history, Israel also fell away from God routinely. God told them to be loyal to Him and to not mix with the people around them and the practices of those people. 1John 2:15 says, “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.” To love the world here means to love what the world loves: worldly success, popularity, wealth, selfish ambition. Christians who love the world don’t love God (ie. “the love of the Father is not them”). God gave these commands to protect His people, because Christians who chase what the world chases fall into the same curses and bondage the world is in just as it was with Israel.
Spiritual bondage takes many forms: generational curses; generational iniquities; generational sins; self-acquired curses through personal sin; witchcraft curses; occult spiritual caging; the bondage of satanic ritual abuse; etc. No matter which type you’re dealing with, here are some steps that can help you break free:
- Seek out mature Christians. In the world, you can “be all you can be” and “be the best version of yourself”; you can be whatever you want… or pretend to be it when you aren’t. In Christ, you are who you are and no more or less; you are either mature (ie. steadily seeking God’s will and therefore growing spiritually) or you aren’t. Paul said to the Corinthian Church, “My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age… These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one” (1Corinthians 2). This isn’t the place to unpack that, but Paul is basically saying, “What we apostolic ministers of God have to say only really makes sense to Christians who are mature. The worldly mindset in immature Christians doesn’t allow them to understand or receive (agree with) the things of God.” Seek out and ask God to connect you with mature Christians. Just one of such people, imperfections and all, will be a major majority for you.
- Sanctify yourself to God and turn from the world. Sanctification is the same as whole-hearted devotion, and turning from the world is simply deciding to undergo– or to let God take you through– a process of mind-renewal which will indeed make you a totally different person. (Therefore, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” –Romans 12:2.) Sanctification will help prepare you for deliverance and will protect you from falling back into bondage (and sin) after deliverance.
