While speaking to a Gentile woman who was seeking deliverance for her daughter, Jesus called deliverance ministry “the children’s bread” (Mark 7:27). That means that while deliverance ministry can reach to non-Chrstians, it is primarily for Christians. If you need deliverance, it is God’s will for you to be delivered. Here are some things that can be beneficial for you as you seek deliverance:
- Learn some of satan’s foundational strategies against Christians. Isolation is one of satan’s main weapons against a Christian. Paul said, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ… Now you are the body of Christ and members in particular” (1Corinthians 12:12, 27). This simply means that Christians are to be a part of one another because Christians need each other just like the different parts of a person’s body need each other. Another strategy that satan uses against Christians is ignorance. Peter said, “Be sober and watchful, because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith” (1Peter 5:8). To the extent you’re unaware that satan is always looking for an open door or an opportunity against you, to that extent you are vulnerable to his schemes.
- Get prayer support from other Christians. Tell a few Christians you trust that you are in need of deliverance and seeking it, and ask them for prayer support. This can give you some spiritual covering and also help you as you seek the right ministry for deliverance.
- Sanctify your life to God. The Bible says that the Christian is supposed to live a lifestyle of sanctification as a foundational part of his/her life. Paul says that this is the only way to truly know God’s will for your life which includes deliverance: “I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your reasonable service. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is– His good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:1-2). Conforming to the pattern of the world means having the same value system, mindset/worldview, pursuits, and practices. You find and walk in God’s will easier when you are sanctifying your life to God or living a lifestyle of repentance.
