We are in the last days. According to the Bible, we have been in the last days since Jesus ascended to Heaven or maybe since the day of Pentecost. The Bible has many descriptions of the times we live in now– the last days– and it’s hard to find the good ones: Paul said, “Mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days, for men will be lovers of themselves… rather than lovers of God” (2Timothy 2); Paul continues, “For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires” (2Timothy 4); and Jesus said about these times, “Because lawlessness will abound, the love of most will grow cold” (Matthew 24). In times like these, spiritual bondage not only multiplies, but it becomes harder and harder for people to find deliverance.
The following are some truths that are hard but that can truly benefit you as you seek deliverance:
- Hope for a 100-meter dash, but prepare for a long-distance race. The fact is that many people have been seeking deliverance for years and haven’t yet found it. There are many reasons for this, but one of them is that ministry today has more to do with what benefits or is convenient for the minister rather than what Jesus wants the minister to do. When deliverance is done for Jesus’s sake, it can’t not work though sometimes the minister might have to endure more than he/she originally planned for. You might find yourself looking for a deliverance ministry for even years without finding one. Be prepared to endure and hold on to God’s faithfulness.
- Come to terms with human nature or the MO of the carnal nature. Romans 3:9 quotes Psalm 14:1 which says, “There is no one who is good, no not one.” In Mark 10:18 when a rich young ruler appraised Jesus as a good person, thinking Jesus was a normal human being, Jesus responded to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” In Romans 7:18, Paul himelf said, “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh.” The New Testament teaches that Christians who don’t let the Holy Spirit (or what they know is right) lead them are “carnal” which means ‘the same as the unsaved person’ and of little to no use to God. If you seek deliverance ministry with these truths in mind, you will be able to make sense of a lot more and will also have less confusion and discouragement to wrestle with.You’ll retain a proper view of God as you distinguish between Him and even the ‘best’ Christians or ministers which will act as a defense against discouragement and giving up.
