“God so loved the world,” Jesus said, but many Christians do not feel like God loves them. This is certainly true among those who have been suffering from obvious spiritual bondage for a long period of time and who have not been able to find any relief despite crying out to God for deliverance. This is probably truest among people who were victims of occult or satanic ritual abuse, are Christians, and have sought deliverance and have not found it.
I once knew a guy who had demonic nightly visitations on a weekly basis. His family ancestry for at least hundreds of years was full of Rosicrucians and Masons who were very heavily demonized and who secretly practiced torture, sacrifice, child trafficking, and the blackest of magic. God used to speak to this guy through songs and one day he was awakened from sleep by a demonic attack. He was distressed and discouraged: God hadn’t stopped the attack, so he felt like God didn’t really love him. Then this song suddenly came into his heart: “Be still my soul; the Lord is on thy side…”
Here are some helpful things you can do as you seek deliverance:
- Surround yourself with Christians who have matured past the “bless me” stage of Christianity. John shows in 1John 2:12-14 that there are three levels of Christian maturity: babies (exclusive and self-focused); youth (inclusive and others-focused); adults/parents (balanced (exclusive/inclusive) and God-focused). Christians who are on the second and third levels are indispensable at this time in history; but they are very few. If you find just one of these, hang on to them. If you don’t find one, ask God to send you the support you need through another means.
- Put your faith in God. Jesus paid for your deliverance from spiritual bondage at the cross and ensured the payment at the resurrection. Isaiah 53:4 tells us, “Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.” Bondage is not God’s will for anyone, most of all His people. Have faith that God will deliver you as you pursue your deliverance. It might take time, but having a healthy support system will definitely pull you through.
