Also, be aware that you can call around to local churches in your area to ask them if they have a deliverance ministry or if they know one in your area. Some churches have a deliverance ministry or function. Always vet a ministry when you contact them. Ask them questions that are pertinent to your situation until you determine whether or not you want to visit them. And if you call a ministry that is not in your area, ask them if they know any near you.
Spiritual warfare is a hot topic in some churches and religious circles. The focus tends to be on battling evil spirits, but there are many aspects of spiritual warfare that don’t concern direct or obvious battle. Paul alluded in part to this when he said, “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). This means that even everyday obstacles, attitudes from others, or small hindrances or stumbles are often effected by the enemy. If you are seeking deliverance for yourself or someone else, the following points can be helpful:
- Know your enemy. The Bible teaches that satan is constantly roaming around the earth, seeking people to take advantage of, harm, and destroy. In Job 1 and 2, satan himself admits to this. While your warfare against satan isn’t 24/7, his warfare against you certainly is. The more cognizant you become of this, the better equipped you will be to make wiser decisions and to avoid needless pitfalls and casualties, especially as you pursue deliverance.
- Get support. David prayed, “May He send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion” (Psalm 20:2). The Bible says that Christians need each other. Seek and ask God to provide you a few Christians to support you as you pursue deliverance.
- Have faith in God. Hebrews 6 says that “whoever comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” God’s Word says that His will is to deliver the oppressed and release the prisoner: “Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah 53:4). Faith will be the fuel that enables you to pursue deliverance until you get it.
