The world has been in conflict since the Fall of man at the Garden of Eden. It’s just that we as humans became so accustomed to living in a fallen state that we rarely can see it for what it is. On the day of Pentecost, for example, it says of Peter, “And with very many other words did he testify and exhort them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation’” (Acts 2:40). Even 2,000 years ago, people were perverted or defiled. That only means it must be worse 2,000 years later.
Paul said that the whole earth and everything in it is in turmoil, because of the Fall of man, and groans in pain, longing to be delivered from the effects of the Fall: “The creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now” (Romans 8:21-22). Human beings also feel the effects of the Fall; but we tend to be accustomed to it and so don’t find ourselves ‘groaning’ unless we begin to grow in Christ– then as He is formed in us, we’ll begin to see as He sees and will begin to also grieve what the world has become since the Fall and long for deliverance and restoration: “We also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body” (Romans 8:23).
Because of the conflict in the world, satan occupies the heavenly places as ruler of this world, therefore, people are continually falling into spiritual bondage. Hollywood, especially, and the entertainment industry have played a big part in bringing people under more spiritual bondage. Much of the solution is, therefore, is in cutting ties with those things. As you seek deliverance, here are some tips that can help you:
- Sanctify yourself to God. This means to no longer follow the pursuits and value systems of the world but to devote yourself to God and pursue His interests and make His values yours.
- Seek godly fellowship. Pray for God to connect you with godly Christians who will walk with you, because “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor” (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
- Be ready to persevere. The real Christian life is a race that requires endurance and perseverance. Your deliverance might not come immediately and might take a while. Be willing to persevere and keep seeking until you find it.
